Little Horse - World Cultural Heritage Site
The famous Vogelherd Horse is considered one of the masterpieces of cultural history due to its age and fascinating aesthetic appeal. It was discovered in 1931 during excavations led by the Tübingen archaeologist Gustav Riek (1900–1976) in the Vogelherd Cave in the Lonetal valley. Alongside the mammoth, the 4.8 cm horse can be described as the masterpiece of Vogelherd. With its curved neck and rounded forms, it appears exceptionally elegant and impressively reflects the craftsmanship of early humans. The collection of Ancient Cultures is part of the Museum of the University of Tübingen (MUT) at Hohentübingen Castle, where the original horse can be admired.
